Heat Exchanger Tubing
Small to medium-diameter, high-precision tube used as the primary heat transfer element in shell-and-tube exchangers, condensers, reboilers and other process bundles.
The heat transfer element, and the failure point if it is wrong
Heat exchanger tubing is typically cold process seamless, with tight dimensional tolerances, a smooth internal bore and the corrosion and temperature resistance needed to withstand cyclic thermal stress and aggressive process fluids.
Tubes are usually supplied bright annealed or pickled and passivated for easy cleaning and low fouling. Common industrial sizes are OD 19 mm x 2 mm, 25 mm x 2.5 mm and 38 mm x 2.5 mm, with most process exchangers falling between 10 and 50.8 mm OD.
Tube is supplied up to 12 metres to cover most shell-and-tube bundles.
Engineered for thermal duty
Uniform wall
Cold finished process gives even wall, roundness and pressure integrity.
Low fouling
BA or pickled-passivated bore resists deposition and cleans more readily in service.
Thermal cycling
Grade and wall selection matched to cyclic stress and process chemistry.
Full inspection
Pressure test, NDT and dimensional checks recorded against EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2.
| OD (mm) | Typical wall | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 10 – 12.7 | 0.8 – 1.5 mm | Low-pressure preheaters, small exchangers |
| 15 – 19 | 1.00 - 2.00 mm | General process exchangers |
| 25 - 32 | 1.6 - 2.5 mm | Common process and condenser tubes |
| 32 – 38 | 2.00 - 4.00 mm | Higher-pressure or large-duty exchangers |
| 50 – 101.6 | 2.00 - 5.00 mm | Large-duty or high-pressure bundles |

What to send us for a firm quote
The more of this we have up front, the faster the quotation and the fewer clarifications later. Partial enquiries are welcome — we will tell you what else the specification needs.
Send an enquiryHeat Exchanger Tubing — common questions
Which sizes are most commonly ordered?
OD 19 x 2 mm, 25 x 2.5 mm and 38 x 2.5 mm cover most process duties. The majority of process exchangers fall between 10 and 50.8 mm OD.
What finish is best for fouling resistance?
Bright annealed or pickled and passivated bores resist deposition and clean more readily than a mill finish.
Can you supply non-standard lengths?
Tube is supplied up to 12 m to suit shell-and-tube bundle designs.
Which grades suit seawater cooling?
904L, super austenitic and duplex 2205 are specified for highly corrosive or high-chloride environments such as seawater coolers and offshore service.
