Electropolished Tubing
Stainless steel tubing finished by an electrochemical process that produces an ultra-smooth, mirror-like internal and external surface.
Smoother than bright annealed, and more corrosion resistant
Electropolishing removes a thin layer of material, typically 10 to 15 µm, eliminating microscopic imperfections, burrs and contaminants. What remains is a mirror-bright surface with a chromium-rich passive layer that resists corrosion better than a mechanically polished equivalent.
Internal roughness is held at Ra 0.25 µm or lower, with some production achieving 0.145 µm. Dimensions stay accurate and consistent, and bead-removed options are available for welded product.
The finish is the highest cleanliness standard among stainless tubes, which is why it is the default for ultra-pure gas, pharmaceutical and semiconductor service.
What electropolishing changes
Microscopic smoothness
Imperfections, burrs and embedded contaminants are removed rather than smeared over.
Passive layer
A chromium-rich film raises corrosion resistance beyond mechanically polished tube.
Cleanability
The smoothest bore available in stainless tube, so residue has nowhere to hold.
Dimensional stability
Accuracy and consistency preserved through the finishing process.
| Standard | Application |
|---|---|
| ASTM A269 | Seamless and welded tubing for general corrosion-resistant applications |
| ASTM A249 | Welded tubing for boilers, superheaters and heat exchangers |
| ASTM A270 | Sanitary tubing for the pharmaceutical and food industry |
| SEMI F19, F60 | Semiconductor industry surface condition and characterisation standards |

What to send us for a firm quote
The more of this we have up front, the faster the quotation and the fewer clarifications later. Partial enquiries are welcome — we will tell you what else the specification needs.
Send an enquiryElectropolished Tubing — common questions
How much material does electropolishing remove?
Typically 10 to 15 um, which removes microscopic imperfections, burrs and embedded contaminants rather than smearing them over.
Is electropolished smoother than bright annealed?
Yes. Electropolished bores reach Ra 0.25 um or lower, smoother than BA tubing, with some production achieving 0.145 um.
Does electropolishing improve corrosion resistance?
Significantly. The process leaves a chromium-rich passive layer that resists corrosion better than a mechanically polished surface.
Are bead-removed options available?
Yes, bead-removed options are available and dimensions remain accurate and consistent after finishing.
