SEAMLESS HIGH PURITY TUBES

Bioprocessing Equipment Tubing

Stainless steel tubing manufactured to the ASME BPE standard for biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications.

316L / EN 1.4404 S 0.005 – 0.017% SF1 AND SF4 FINISHES MAX 90 HRB
OVERVIEW

A standard that governs more than the tube

ASME BPE, developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, governs equipment design, materials, fabrication, inspection, cleaning, sanitisation, testing and certification for high-purity process systems. BPE tubing is the piping element of that system.

The primary grade is 316L stainless steel to ASTM A269 TP316L, with EN 1.4404 as the European equivalent. Sulphur content is deliberately controlled between 0.005% and 0.017% because it is critical to consistent orbital weld penetration.

The standard designates six surface finish grades across mechanical polishing and electropolishing. SF1 mechanical and SF4 electropolished are the most widely used. Every tube is boroscope inspected for pits, nicks, inclusions and cracks.

WHY ASME BPE

Built for validated systems

01

Weldability by design

Controlled sulphur chemistry gives predictable orbital weld penetration on site.

02

Defined finishes

Six graded finishes remove ambiguity between supplier and validation engineer.

03

Documented inspection

Boroscope examination of the bore, recorded per lot.

04

System-level standard

Covers design, fabrication, cleaning, sanitisation, testing and certification.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Bioprocessing Equipment Tubing — common questions

Why is sulphur content controlled in BPE tubing?

Sulphur between 0.005 and 0.017 per cent is critical for consistent orbital weld penetration on site, which is why ASME BPE specifies it.

Which BPE finishes are most used?

SF1, the default mechanical finish at 20 Ra or better, and SF4, the default electropolished finish at 15 Ra or better plus EP.

What inspection does BPE tubing receive?

Boroscope visual inspection of the bore for pits, nicks, inclusions and cracks, in addition to standard dimensional and pressure checks.

Does ASME BPE cover more than the tube?

Yes. It governs equipment design, materials, fabrication, inspection, cleaning, sanitisation, testing and certification for high-purity process systems.
